Gringo HP (2004)

Project Type

Short film

Date

2004

Location

Bogotá, Colombia

In 2004, I won one of the grants from the Film Development Fund, in the Short Film Production category, with the short film "GRINGO H.P," which I directed in 2005.
It was my first time as a director, and the result was a good story (based on true events) with an execution that left me unsatisfied. The audiovisual language was too commercial, which detracted from the importance and depth of the project´s premise.

Still, the protagonist, John Alex Toro, won the Best Actor award at the Invitro Visual Awards for short films.
SYNOPSIS

"Desechable" or “disposable” is the epithet that Steven, a university student, uses to refer to Giovani, a homeless man who often begs in his neighborhood. Offended and thirsty for revenge, Giovani steals Steven's computer, where he has his thesis stored. As Steven tries to recover the computer, which Giovani has pawned and sold, the student realizes that he has lost the valuable information he saved in it, leading to a situation that ends tragically and violently for both of them. Ironically, the student's thesis was about violence in Colombia.
