I wrote advertising texts for 25 years. Headlines for newspaper ads, body copies for magazine pages, advertorials about products I had never used or didn't believe in, "casual" brand placements in a soap opera. Sometimes I felt like I was blatantly lying. But if I had to lie to write, I lied.

I don't miss agency life. But I appreciate my time there because it was the beginning of the journey towards the stories I'm interested in telling.
